During the Alaior festivities the jaleos, horses, fair and floats populate the streets

Alaior is the third most important town in Menorca, after Maó and Ciutadella. The Alaior festivities are dedicated to the ecclesiastical patron saint Santa Eulàlia, these major festivals are celebrated in honour of Sant Llorenç during the weekend after 10 August (Sant Llorenç festivities).

The origin of these festivals dates back to the conquest of Menorca by King Alfonso III “El Liberal” in 1287.

The tradition of horse racing during the town’s festivities has made the stone walls of Es Cós an ideal place to enjoy an afternoon of races on the Monday of the festivities.

Since 1972, the festivities of Sant Llorenç have included a spectacular parade of floats on the Sunday afternoon of the festival. The giants and big-heads of Alaior also participate in this parade, even giants from other towns are usually invited.
